Chronic Pain
Possible cause
Chronic pain is not merely a signal from the body; it is significantly "learned" and maintained by the brain. A persistently altered neural processing of pain stimuli can cause pain signals to be amplified or perceived for an inappropriately long time, even after the original cause has resolved.
How neurofeedback can help
Neurofeedback trains the brain to re-regulate its pain processing and reduce overactivation in pain-relevant networks. Combined with biofeedback (muscle tension, breathing), physical tension that often intensifies pain can additionally be reduced.
