The medical base, in English
ASCA and EMR may require documented medical foundations in anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology. This course documents 152 hours in English. They may be submitted as part of a recognition application; each register decides whether and how they count after assessing the full application. The course is also open to complementary therapists from other disciplines who need these subjects.
The course is intended for practitioners from complementary disciplines who need documented medical foundations, including:
What the twelve modules cover
Anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology, worked through one organ system at a time, with hygiene, professional ethics and emergency first aid alongside.
Cytology, embryology, genetics and general pathology.
Central and peripheral nervous system, brain anatomy and physiology, autonomic nervous system, sleep and circadian rhythm.
Structure and function of the airways and lungs.
Sensory organs and hormonal regulation.
What blood carries, the lymphatic system, and how the heart and vessels move it.
The body's defences and immune responses.
Bones, joints and muscles.
The stomach, the gut, and how food is broken down and absorbed.
Urinary tract and reproductive organs.
Infection control, clinical hygiene and the ethics of working with patients.
Principles of medicines and their effects across body systems.
First aid and BLS-AED-SRC.
When the course runs, and what it costs
Teaching is on Wednesday evenings and a handful of Saturdays, all over Zoom, from September 2026 to May 2027. Only the final exam is in person, in Blonay.
- Wednesday evenings 18:00 to 21:00 (CET), from 07.10.2026
- Selected Saturdays 09:00 to 15:00, the first on 05.09.2026
- Final exam on 08.05.2027 in Blonay: written multiple-choice paper (80% pass mark) and a short oral presentation

Who teaches
The course is taught by a biomedical scientist with a PhD, an osteopath, and the institute's director.

The whole course is in English, fully online via Zoom.
Who is the course for?

Do I have to travel for the exam?
Teaching is online. The final exam on 08.05.2027 takes place in person in Blonay.
