Post-viral symptoms

Long Covid, post-viral fatigue and brain fog

After an infection, exhaustion, slower thinking, sleep problems, and limited tolerance for exertion may persist. Training needs to take this fluctuating capacity into account.

Symptoms that persist after infection

Long Covid and post-viral fatigue vary widely. Commonly reported difficulties include marked exhaustion, poor concentration or memory, disrupted sleep, headaches, and a sense of mental fog.

For some people, symptoms increase after physical or cognitive exertion. This pattern requires medical assessment and must be considered in any training plan.

Autonomic regulation and cognitive load

Persistent symptoms may be associated with changes in autonomic regulation, sleep, and tolerance for cognitive demands. This does not mean that every symptom has the same cause.

We review the course of the illness, available medical findings, current limits, and typical fluctuations. Measurements are used only when they answer a specific question for training.

Training paced to current capacity

Neurofeedback can provide feedback on selected EEG activity. Biofeedback can display measures such as breathing or heart rate variability. Exercises begin at a low dose and are adjusted according to the response.

  • Take daily capacity and exertion limits into account
  • Observe activation and recovery responses
  • Pace cognitive tasks without unnecessary overload
  • Record changes over several appointments

Alongside medical care

Long Covid can affect several body systems. Neurofeedback and biofeedback do not replace medical investigation or treatment. Suitability depends on the individual symptom pattern and tolerance for exertion.

Mechanism and training goal

Long-COVID & Post-Viral Fatigue

Possible cause

Long-COVID is often accompanied by dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system and altered neural activation patterns. This neurological imbalance impairs information processing, disrupts the brain's energy supply, and affects overall recovery capacity.

How neurofeedback can help

Neuro- and biofeedback address exactly this neurological dysregulation: they support the brain in breaking out of the exhaustion and overactivation pattern, gradually restoring cognitive performance and autonomic self-regulation – entirely without medication.
